Bridges made of music – An unforgettable evening with Beatrix Becker (grand piano) and Noah Hoffeld (cello)
In times of reappearing cultural chasms and changing world orders, Beatrix Becker and Noah Hoffeld perform as musical mediators. Intense, playful, both fiery and intricate, the duo breaks down walls between classical music and jazz and shares their deep knowledge of Tango, Flamenco, and Klezmer. The two frame intimate tête-à-tête conversations between European and American musical traditions, informed by Eric Satie, Philip Glass, Isaac Albéniz, Ernest Bloch, Ludovico Einaudi and John Williams.
For Beatrix Becker, her Big Apple debut in september 2015 is not just another landmark in her career, living up to her reputation as Berlin’s piano ‘Fräuleinwunder’. She will also be walking in the footsteps of her second cousin, the late Eric Rosen, a Jewish emigrant to the U.S. who ran the legendary Grinzing Music Club on East 79th street. By day, Beatrix will visit the venue and immerse herself in the echoes of the past, and by night take to the stage to make that feeling come alive – Plumbing the depths of human experience is the Beatrix Becker way of approaching music and making sense of this world. It leads straight to the heart and soul of her audiences!
Before starting her career as a solo artist and composer, Becker studied classical clarinet and piano, recorded several CDs as the leader of the acclaimed tango band ‘Bassa’, playing more than 100 concerts a year and sharing stages all over Europe and Israel with the likes of Giora Feldman, Helmut Eisel, and Raul Jaurena. In 2012, she followed an instinct to travel to Buenos Aires and found the vibrant metropolis to be the perfect inspiration for her first solo album, ‘Melody of Love’, which was critically acclaimed ‘a remarkable expression of our times’ (PIANONews). She was invited as artist in residence to Switzerland where the lakes and rivers of the country inspired her to record the CD ‘Wassermusiken’ (Water Musics). Critically acclaimed as a ‘musical poet’ (Tip Berlin) Beatrix Becker has become a a household name in the European event and festival scene. Following an enthusiastically received high profile concert at Berlin’s Admirals’ Palace, Becker is now back to touring Europe and creating her new CD ‘Phoenix’.
For her New York Debut, Becker will team with the acclaimed Noah Hoffeld. A Juilliard graduate, the cellist, multi-instrumentalist and composer is at home in many musical worlds, ranging from classical to improvisation, from world music to epic film scores. In 2012, his devotion to Jewish music inspired him to record the powerful, acclaimed album ‘Sacred Time: Jewish Music for Cello and Piano’. His cello solos are heard in the upcoming film ‘A Walk in the Woods,’ starring Robert Redford. Currently, Hoffeld is scoring two movies and will release his debut rock album ‘Play Human’ this Summer.
After their Concert on September 20th, 2015 at Cornelia Street Café Becker and Hoffeld will bring their New York experience to Munich, Berlin and other European cities. These concerts will also be offered as exclusive live streams on Beatrix Becker’s website for those who are unable to attend the events on the other shore of the Atlantic.
